Four minor Derm procedures: Milia, a blackhead, & a tag. For medical education- NSFE.

For medical education- NSFE. 1. Small and numerous milia on younger patients are best treated with electrocautery at a very low setting.. this cauterizes the superficial surface of the skin, so that the milia is exposed and will pop out over the next couple of days. Can also be used to “pop” pustules, and shrink oil glands (sebaceous hyperplasias).

2. This sweet gentleman had a blackhead on the right side of his neck. He came to see me for his general body examination, and as you can see, his wife uses a red pen to circle areas on his body that she wants to point out to me. 😉

3. This is #2’s wife, who had a skin tag (aka acrochordon) on her right upper eyelid. They are easily removed with a little local numbing medicine, and a sharp serrated scissor. As you can see there is no bleeding because my anesthesia contains a little epinephrine, which causes temporary vasoconstriction of blood vessels. It will heal up quickly and very nicely.

3. A tough stubborn milia on the neck of one of my patients. Sometimes, those milia are difficult to completely remove. In this case, a little of it’s sac was remaining adherent to her skin, so I was trying to wrestle it off. No bruising or permanent trauma will be created by this procedure.
