What is PCOS?

– PCOS is also known as polycystic ovary/ovarian syndrome, a hormonal disorder which is common among women of reproductive age.
– Women dealing with this condition may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (known as androgens) levels.
– In PCOS, ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid and fail to regularly release eggs.
– Signs and symptoms of PCOS may be typically severe for obese women.
– There’s no known cause of polycystic ovary syndrome but some factors such as excess insulin, low grade inflammation, heredity and excess androgen might play a vital role in this condition.

PCOS may affect your body through these complications:

– Infertility
– Gestational diabetes or pregnancy induced high blood pressure
– Miscarriage or premature birth
– Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes
– Sleep Apnea
– Depression, anxiety and eating disorders
– Abnormal uterine bleeding
– Endometrial Cancer
