Treating nevus araneus (broken capillaries) with electrocautery. For medical education- NSFE.
For medical education- NSFE. This patient came to see me because she has “red dots on her hands” that she doesn’t like the appearance of. She is getting married soon, and wants her hands to look beautiful, of course! She has two nevus araneus, also called spider angiomas. These are just small broken capillaries, maybe due to sun damage thinning the walls of a superficial blood vessel, or even due to mild trauma, “bursting” a blood vessel close to the skin surface. These are BENIGN and don’t require treatment at all. However, if you don’t like the appearance of them, they can be treated easily with a laser or simply with an electrocautery at a very low setting, as I do here.
