Solar comedones extracted, aka Favre Racouchot

This patient’s wife saw me today, for her general body skin exam. As they were leaving, she showed me a couple spots he had, and I couldn’t help but notice the large solar comedones that he had around his eyes. He let me remove them, and his wife was happy that I did!

Solar comedones are blackheads that are created not from acne, but from chronic sun exposure. One of the common places to see these comedones are next to the eyes, where the smile lines are… when these comedones are located here, this has a specific name, called Favre-Racouchot.

In America, where we drive on the left side of the vehicle, we as dermatologists, usually see more significant sun damage on the left sides of people’s faces as you can see in this case, since, in general, we Americans get more sun exposure on the left side of our face and upper body due to exposure while driving our vehicles.

Here I do simple extractions of his blackheads and whiteheads, using a comedone extractor, and often numbing up the skin and /or nicking the surface of the skin with an 11 blade first, so I can express the comedone contents more easily and more comfortably.

Thank you for watching! I’m so happy to be BACK! :)))))
