Removing a probable “traumatic lipoma” on the forehead
This patient is the same person who had the brown bumps, aka dermatosis papulosa nigra, on her cheeks and neck, removed with laser treatment with the Iriderm laser.
She also came to see me for this bump on her forehead which is not painful, but the appearance really bothers her. It is very mobile, and is likely a traumatic lipoma, although she does not recall any history of trauma to the area (such as banging your head against a cupboard, or getting hit in the forehead with a baseball).
A traumatic lipoma is a benign growth, like regular lipomas, but if it is due to trauma, it tends to be less encapsulated and therefore I’m less assured that I have removed the whole lesion when I excise this. It’s important for me to inform the patient that there’s a higher chance this kind of lipoma can reoccur. Even though the risk of recurrence is low, it’s always important that a patient understands that the bump can reappear.
She is a wonderful patient of mine who came from pretty far to see me! I’ve seen her a couple times now, and we’ve become fast friends. 🙂
Thank you for watching!!
