Punch removal of a Cyst on a patient with Tinea Versicolor

This patient had a small bump on her back that she wanted to have removed, and during examination, I noticed that she had white and pink, finely scaly patches on her back. This is a common condition called tinea versicolor, or pityriasis versicolor. It is caused by a yeast that is a common inhabitant on the skin of all of us, but in some people, especially if they sweat often and/or live in humid environments, this yeast can grow a little out of control. These patches are not itchy or bothersome, but they become more noticeable if a person gets sun exposure, because these patches of skin will usually not tan or turn darker, and the patches therefore become more obvious and noticeable.
A nice at home treatment or preventative treatment, (because this is a condition that is benign but can tend to reoccur), is to wash the body with an antidandruff shampoo. Otherwise, topical and oral prescription medications can be given to resolve the condition.
Also, bonus, she has a small cyst on her back that I remove via punch biopsy.
