Multiple Pilar Cysts – #TBT
This is a lovely patient of mine who travelled from a little distance to see me. She knew I did segments for The Doctors TV show, but this was before DrPimplePopper got big. She had a couple big bumps on her scalp, which are pilar cysts.
Pilar cysts tend to occur in families, and many people can have more than one. They most commonly occur on the scalp and have a thicker wall than an epidermoid cyst so the pilar cyst wall is easier to fully enucleate compared to an epidermoid cyst.
These are not harmful, and don’t need to be removed. However, many people do seek removal, because the bump may be noticeable or it becomes bothersome to them, especially when they comb their hair.
Here I excise two areas on her head and remove these cysts. The second one is one of my favorite pilar cyst removals. I am often shocked by the size of a cyst when I remove it.. it is often bigger than it initially appears, and this one proved this to be true once again!
Thank you so much for watching!!
