Basically, ingrown hairs are mostly caused by shaving and are known as razor bumps. They also tend to occur on people with tight curly hair. They also appear regardless of whether you’re shaving or not.

Ingrown hairs occur most to people who have tight curly hair (e.g bikini line/beard)

How To Prevent Ingrown Hairs?

* Shave after showering as the hydration and warm water softens the hair, making its tip dull so the hairs are less likely to re-enter the skin.

* Shave, Don’t Wax

Waxing is more likely to cause ingrown hairs to grow when the whole hair is gone and the hair follicle starts anew. Use a sharp clean blade and shave in the direction of your hairs

*Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin before shaving makes sure that your pores are clear to prevent ingrown hairs. A an example of a good exfoliator includes gentle scrubs or dry brush.

*Apply Lotion Mixed With Tea Tree Oil

Applying lotion with tea tree oil helps keep your skin soft and prevent skin inflammation and infection after shaving.

Treating Existing Ingrown Hairs

* Use chemical exfoliant – sugar scrubs can cause more irritation to an existing ingrown hair even though they are a good preventive method, compared to chemical exfoliants.

* Moisturize – Keep moisturizing even your skin feels fine to prevent ingrown hairs from growing out. Moisturize as much as you can

* Use a sterile needle to lift ingrown hair – make sure to sterilize your needle with rubbing alcohol then lift the hair up. Rub a disinfectant such as witch hazel on the affected area to prevent any inflammation and infection
