EYE CYST??? #TMITUESDAYS

Today I’m going to talk about the 2 most common eye cysts, what causes them and their signs, and their treatment and finally how to prevent eye cysts.
Your eyelids can sometimes can grow a small unsightly lump and these cysts are known as a stye or a chalazion.
A stye is an infected red lump along the edge of your eyelid and unfortunately they can even grow inside your eyelid which as you imagine can get painful and annoying.
The other type of eye cyst is called chalazion which is a lump on your eyelid and they tend to be a little larger and less painful than a stye since they typically aren’t infected.
What causes these eye cysts?
The cause of styes is bacteria getting trapped around your eyelids and they cause an infection by your eyelashes. Sometimes sharing mascara, or having bacteria trapped around your eyes from not removing your makeup properly can cause this.
Chalazion Eye cysts are caused by an oil gland blockage. When the gland is blocked, your eyelid will slowly start to swell up and grow a lump, and usually these types of cysts aren’t infected.
How long does it take for the cyst to go away?
Most eye cysts will heal on their own .
Styes can take about a week to heal and it may give you watery eyes while you have the stye.
A Chalazion may take a few months to go away on their own and it can cause some swelling in your eyelid.
How do I treat at home?
1. Apply a warm wet compress on your eye for 10 minutes 3 to 6 times a day. This helps open up the blocked pore so that it can help the cyst drain out faster.
2. You can try an OTC treatment like a stye ointment or medicated pads like Ocusoft at your pharmacy.
3. Avoid wearing makeup or contact lenses until your cyst has healed.
How do I prevent eye cysts?
1. Avoid rubbing your eyes because bacteria from your fingers can easily enter into your eye.
2. Replace your mascara after 6 months and replace really old eyeliners because they can grow bacteria and spread it right into your eye.
3. Make sure you always clean your eyelids thoroughly and remove all your makeup from your eyelids.
4. Throughly clean your falsies and make sure all the eye lash glue is off your eyelid before you go to bed. Also don’t share your false eyelashes and eyelash glue with other people since that can spread infection too.
