Excision of a basal cell carcinoma on the thigh, wearing my GoPro!
A basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer seen. In fact, it’s the most common type of cancer of ALL cancers. The good news about BCCs is that they are not life threatening in general. They are locally destructive though, so it is still important to remove them. The smaller they are when they are removed, the smaller the scar.
They predominantly appear in areas of the body that have received chronic and excessive sun exposure. They most commonly appear later in life (50s, 60, 70s, 80s), but are likely due to the cumulative sun exposure that began when you were younger.
Here you see me surgically excising a basal cell carcinoma on the anterior thigh. This is a common procedure I do, and I probably have 1-4 of these type of surgeries per day at work.
Thank you for watching!!
