Popping out a PEACH of a Lipoma on the Right Upper Arm

This darling woman sees me for regular skin exams, and this time she comes in complaining of a new noticeable lump on the right upper arm. She is concerned that it may be something bad, such as a skin cancer, and her primary care doctor recommended that she have it further evaluated by her dermatologist.
Upon palpation, there is a firm nodule under the skin, but it is very mobile, and this is a “good sign”. I suspected it was a lipoma but confirmation of this diagnosis was made after it was removed and sent for dermatopathology.
A lipoma is a benign clonal collection of fat cells. There is usually no change to the skin on the surface but a mobile, rubbery bump is felt under the skin. In this case, the lipoma was a little firmer in consistency, but it still proved to be benign. These are usually asymptomatic and people request removal because of concern, or for aesthetic reasons.
As you can see I removed this lipoma under local anesthesia alone, and no further treatment is needed.
